  Introduction:
In our daily commutes, we drive, walk or pass by certain city roads, bridges, tunnels or buildings, and seldom stop to reflect beyond their obvious use or function as structures. Our interest in urban design, architecture and their relationship to transportation systems has prompted us to conceptually formulate ideas and create projects where people are invited to experience everyday environments and objects in a different and challenging way.

Working on an empty lot, a large wall, a public park, a commercial business site or a major interstate highway, the importance of people's reaction in relation to the altered, intervened or appropriated space has served and inspired us to commit to the challenges one faces when dealing with the implementation of public art. In our daily activities, we often encounter commercial and educational messages that express the characteristics and concerns of a community, a city and even a country.  It is these visual and sonic experiences that I appropriate, transform, and share with interested audiences.

About:
100Degrees is a project that treats present concerns about the global environment by challenging local residents to really think and express their opinions on pollution, waste of natural resources, technological development and human adaptability. By integrating visual technology, site-specific installation techniques and audience’s participation 100Degrees transforms the public realm into an open forum and a creative sphere.

Description:
100Degrees is a site-specific Public Art Installation project consisting of a public workshop and evening video projections to take place on Queens Boulevard at 33 Street, under the elevated #7 Train, 33 St. & Rawson Station, in Sunnyside, Queens. The temporary public installation motivates audiences to be involved at various levels, and provides the artists an opportunity to fully integrate technology, information, and community participation.

Public Art Installation –Consists of a 10 feet vinyl sphere that holds a tree whose leaves are made out of recycled paper where the public has written messages about the environmental state of the planet. The large sphere depicts the seven continents in red while the green branches of the tree map regions creating the illusion of a changing effect on the surface of the sphere.

Public Workshop –The public and the community at large is invited to participate in the creation of the leaves with messages about Earth and climate change.

Evening Video Projections –Appropriated footage and the artists’ messages are projected on the ceiling of the train station.  The footage mixes, in real time, passersby and the traffic of the boulevard.
